3D scanners, or Optical Measuring Machines, are non-contact metrological systems used to intercept information about the geometry of the objects, even the most complicated ones.

In the 3D scanning process, or in other words 3D digitization, the real objects are replaced by precise digital models, usually saved in the form of a grid of STL triangles, which can be easily subjected to a process of quality control or reverse engineering.

A complete set of such a 3D scanner is a small transportation case and a laptop, which can be easily carried to any location in order to perform precision 3D measurements, even in hard-to-reach areas, which cannot be done by means of traditional measurement methods
